Moving, moving, moving, moving

Well, yippy-ki-yi-yeah! We are, God willing, moving on Saturday, February 28th. Gwen and Debera are helping with lunch afterwards. Won't this be fun? I am almost done packing and am looking forward to unpacking.

We begin our fun expedition at 9:30am and hopefully will be done within an hour or two. Here is a website to see our new place. http://www.westsideplaces.com/3614%20Faris.htm Tomorrow we will select between 4 available apartments. Each is a slightly different set-up.

On other news we have 98 days approximately until BT arrives, yep this is coming fast! We are in week 26/40.

Worried

Today I woke up worried. It is such a strange occurance. My mind was zipping around so fast and from topic to topic that I could not in my groggy state of mind keep up or even approach problem solving in a logical way. I always find that crying is a good way to release all this emotion especially in my prego condition. So now I possess a throbbing headache and puffy red eyes, but I feel ever so much better. =0)

Anyway, for breakfast I really thought I should have comfort food. I had Campbell's chicken noodle soup and grilled peanutbutter and jam. Have you ever had grilled p&j? The peanutbutter just melts in your mouth. Yummy! Thanks mom, I loved that growing up.

I wonder what your comfort food might be?

I am also fond of chocolate chip cookie dough and milk.

Steve's is noodles, all kinds and flavors.

Empty Egg carton

When I taught school I used to request that parents have their children bring in things like empty egg cartons for amazing school crafts that only imaginative little people appreciate. Like egg carton catipillars, or egg carton seashells with a pearl inside.

Well this egg carton story is nothing like that. It is evidence that terrible things happen to the brain of pregnant women. Yesterday, I got up feeling like ten miles of bad road, but I needed to get up and drop off Steve at work. He looked concerned and kept telling me to go right back to bed when I returned home, so I also must have looked like 10 miles of bad road too. But once I am up, I am up. So I stopped by the bagel getting place and got the day old bagels and went home. I decided to make a fried egg to go on my bagel. I opened the fridge, pulled out the egg carton, put it on the counter, and got my pan all ready for the big fry.

After the pan was hot, I opened up the egg carton and imagine my confusion when I saw nothing. Yep, absolutely nothing, not a single egg was in sight. What? Who would put an empty egg carton back in the fridge? Then I remembered, yesterday when closing the fridge a random egg (only one left in the carton) had flown out the door and I crushed it when I closed the door. In my haste to clean up the egg, I had forgotten about the empty egg carton. So I went to plan B. But it sure confused me for a while.

*Strike 1 for prego brain.

Later in the day, I went to the DMV, ok, not on my top favorite places to go, to exchange 1 plate for 2 plates for the car. We had recieved a ticket for not having a license plate on the front of the car. Imagine my disappointment when they told me to bring in the plate from off the car. I had the other car, so I had to zip home, unscrew the plate from the Honda and get back in line at the DMV. When I handed the receptionist my form and plates, she looked so confused.
"You want to two plates for one?" she sweetly verified.
"Yes, that is correct." I confidently assured her, with a pious long-suffering smile (my private bias being that the brightest and best do not work at the DMV, this from previous encounters).
"Well, you have here two plates stuck together." She was forcefully pry-ing the plates apart.

"You cannot be serious?" She was indeed serious as she handed the plates back to me.
"Do you still want two plates?" She asked in a pious long-suffering smile, (I think she believes the people who come to the DMV are not the brightest and the best citizens, this from previous encounters).
**Strike 2 for prego brain.

Bought a humidifier for better sleeping in this dry weather from Goodwill. Yesterday, I decided to clean it all up and make sure it was working well. Imagine my surprise when I filled it up with water and it all began leaking out the bottom. I hadn't noticed a little plug was missing when I bought it. Ugg, now that is a problem. The good news is it does work, but the bad news is the water all flows out the plugless hole.
***Strike 3 for prego brain.

Steve and I decided to have chicken soup for supper. We stopped by Vons to pick up a can of soup. I prefer old Cambells and he likes the chunky stuff. He grabbed a can with a gorgeous picture of chunky chicken soup. I thought it looked yummy too. When we got home, I opened the can of Cambells and poured it into the pan. Which I do want to put in a plug for the pop-top cans that are so easy to use now days. Great idea, whoever thought of that. Next, I opened his can to put into his pan and just started laughing when I saw it was just plain Swansons chicken broth. Not chuncky soup in the least. With my brain, I am not surprised even a little. I am coming to expect this type of thing. I just laughed and laughed. Steve was completely disgusted with the label. I threw in some noodles, veges and tofu and called it good.

****Strike 4 for prego brain.

Can you believe that they let people like me still drive? It is true. Scary, yet true, and I have credit cards. Three of them, no wonder Steve looks nervous often. I have to give him points for patience, long-suffering and loving. He is a great husband.

Draino works

Well it is always challenging when you have a guest and your sink decides to clog up. Ronnie came for a visit and all teeth brushing had to be moved to the kitchen. You know how many times I have run water in that sink even though I know it is clogged? It is so automatic, I just do it without thinking. Always my fathers child, I decided to unscrew the pipes in the bathroom. This time I was prepared with a bucket to catch the draining water. Yes, that means that last time I did forget about this small detail. Still didn't win, instead of draining nicely, it sprayed out all over. Sadly, I could unscrew only one side of the S trap, drats. So after borrowing a wretch I screwed it back together and belatedly remembered to try the Draino I had been "saving", as only a teacher could save.

Guess what? It really worked this time! That is it, I am going to become a plumber.

I recently asked my friend John, who is a union plumber about the whole plumber pants thing. He confidencially shared a trade secret. When you join the union, you are issued a special pair of swoop backed union plumber pants. That is why plumbers can be so uniform in this little crack problem. It is a real issue of pride for card carrying plumbers. Wear 'em, Share 'em. That is the theme.

More funny is the person who has invented a belt to help people who suffer from pants that slip. The inventor must not realize this is intentional for our plumber friends. If you suffer from buying pants that fit in the hips and thighs but not the waist this product, "Isabelt" might be for you. http://www.isabelt.com/

Ok, I must be taking this a bit far, but in Florida an Amendment was proposed to ban loose fitting pants, the exception was made for plumbing students however. The Amendment was withdrawn. You read about it, http://www.upi.com/Odd_News/2008/03/12/Amendment_would_have_saved_plumber_pants/UPI-76031205360072/

You may enjoy this story of a woman who tried to pull off the plumber pants number without being a plumber. It just doesn't work. http://www.jackiepapandrew.com/plumberspants.html

Ok, enough of this nonsence. Just wear pants that fit and enjoy your day.

Fun on a Monday

Thanks to Martin Luther King, Jr. we had Monday off. Lauren suggested a bring your own picnic. She is so good at coming up with ideas and pulling them off. We all brought our own lunches and met at a lovely park with a fabulous view.

Spending time with family in Christ is the sweetest time you can have. We laughed and chatted and ate. Cheryl never ceases to amaze me with her "I just whipped up this amazing recipe, or that thing." I mean, like really, who makes their own hummus, I ask you? yep, she does. And it was good! Or a cheeseball, and not for a party? yep, she does.

Sosi was such fun. Lauren gave her a blueberry and her tiny face just skrunched up into a ball. It was really funny with amazing involuntary contortions and disgust. These blueberries did not hit her top fav list for sure.

Steve just adores Sosi. He can't wait to have his own baby, though he is a touch disappointed it is not a girl this time.

Speaking of girls, on Sunday we watched Samantha. She came into nursery with a monkey roughly about the same size as herself. Periodically she would put down the monkey and play with something else. One little boy, named Eli, picked up the monkey and started carrying/lugging/dragging the monkey around. Samantha went up to him and looked into his eyes trying to convey that that monkey belonged to her. He did not seem to get it. He just kept dragging. Next she went to me. I promise, without even a word she tattled on Eli just using her eyes. I was laughing so hard, I obviously was not seeing the importance of this crisis. She went to the next adult to trying her eye magic again. Rick fixed the crisis by giving the monkey back. Nursery duty is so fun!

Eggplant

Ok, I must admit to a certain fasination with eggplant. I like the color, the shape, the fact that I never ate this vege before Steve took me for Chinese eggplant with brown sauce. It is one of my favorites. When I was newly wed I would buy an eggplant, excited about what I would do with it...only to have it rot in my fridge.

Well I now have a yummy eggplant, super easy, mega delish recipe... Do you have an eggplant recipe to share with me?

Light Eggplant Parmesan

Use light and low-fat cheeses to make this eggplant Parmesan recipe low in fat and calories.
Prep Time: 12 minutes
Cook Time: 50 minutes
Ingredients:
1 large eggplant, cut in 1/4-inch slices
1 tablespoon olive oil
3 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
dash of garlic powder (optional)
1 teaspoon dried leaf oregano, crumbled
1 can (8 ounces) tomato sauce (I used chopped canned tomatoes)
4 ounces shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese (I used shredded combo cheese)
1/4 cup Italian seasoned bread crumbs

Preparation:Bring large kettle of water to a boil; remove from heat. Drop in eggplant slices; let stand 5 minutes. Drain eggplant slices; blot dry with paper toweling. Heat oil in nonstick skillet; brown eggplant on both sides. In a bowl, combine Parmesan cheese, salt, pepper, garlic powder, oregano and tomato sauce. Spread a little tomato sauce mixture over the bottom of a 9-inch square shallow baking dish. Arrange eggplant sliced in layers with mozzarella cheese. Pour remaining sauce mixture over the eggplant and cheese; top with bread crumbs.Bake eggplant Parmesan at 350° for 50 minutes, or until bubbly. (I cooked for 30 minutes at 450°)

Even Steve liked it!
